WHAT: Media availability with Sen. Bettencourt as he files SB 2 and issues the Senate Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief’s interim report, which presents ideas to improve the property tax process, including the appraisal system, and options to reduce the property tax burden on property owners. Property tax reform is one of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick’s top 10 legislative priorities for the upcoming session.

Over the past year, Chairman Bettencourt and the Senate Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief held eight hearings in seven cities and took 50 hours of testimony regarding the property tax system and appraisal process. Chairman Bettencourt will file SB 2 today and issue the Select Committee’s interim report of recommendations to reform the property tax system and appraisal process. Providing Texas property taxpayers tax relief and appraisal district reform is one of Lt. Gov. Patrick’s top 10 priorities in the upcoming legislative session.
